Adrienne's Story

On September 27, 2001, Adrienne Springstead's mother, a Foundation employee, called and told her the Blood Donor Center was running low on blood. Adrienne donated her first unit that day, and has made it a priority to donate whole blood every 56 days. To date, she has donated 45 units. With each unit potentially saving the lives of three people, Adrienne has affected the lives of 135 people. Read More >

Carlene's Story

Carlene Weber was in an accident many years ago and needed several units of blood. Her husband, Hank, had been a blood donor in college and after her accident he continued to save the lives of others through blood donation. He has donated over 27 gallons, with over 231 donations. Every other Thursday morning Charlie Webber enters the South Bend Medical Foundation Blood Donor Center on Lafayette Blvd with a smile and a hug for everyone. His standing 8am appointment keeps the phlebotomist on her toes as she runs through quality checks and prepares the machine to collect the lifesaving unit of platelets that Charlie is about to donate.
