Be a Blood Donor Recruiter

Thank you for your interest in being a Blood Donor Recruiter! Our community not only counts on volunteers, like you to come in and donate blood, but we also need volunteers to organize blood drives for other potential donors. Please read on and learn about the 3 ways to become a Blood Donor Recruiter. If you have any questions or would like to discuss being a Blood Donor Recruiter, please contact Kay Clark-Cox at kclark-cox@sbmf.org or (574) 234-4176 ext. 1250.

3 Ways to Become a Blood Donor Recruiter

1. Bring A Friend

One of the most important things a blood donor can do is also one of the easiest! The next time you come in to donate blood, rather than coming alone, bring someone along with you. Here are some everyday examples of donors bringing in a friend to donate with them.

  • A husband and wife
  • 2 co-workers spending their lunch
  • A mother and daughter spending a Saturday together shopping and seeing a movie
  • A father brings his daughter... even though she is not yet old enough to donate, he is showing her how easy it is to save a life

2. Coordinate a Remote Blood Drive

A remote blood drive is designed to take place in a large room or area at a sponsoring location. The sponsoring organization should select a small group of volunteers to recruit blood donors. This process begins approximately 8 weeks before the date of the blood drive. South Bend Medical Foundation will provide all of the materials (sign up sheets, flyers, posters, etc.) to promote the blood drive, along with all of the equipment needed to operate the blood drive and the refreshments for post-donations. A coordinator should take the following into consideration before becoming a sponsoring organization for a remote blood drive:

  • Remote blood drives are usually scheduled about 60 days in advance.
  • A minimum of 30 donors must be signed up before the date of the blood drive.
  • The sponsoring organization should provide a secure and suitable room, 3 tables and 10-15 chairs for use during the blood drive.
  • Remote blood drives are scheduled for any 6½ hour period between 7am – 8pm Monday through Friday. Some Saturday blood drives can be scheduled.

3. Coordinate a Donor Day

A Donor Day is a way for an organization to donate blood and be recognized and appreciated as a group for their efforts. The organizations or groups must be in groups of 5 or more and donate at one of the fixed South Bend Medical Foundation donor sites.

What Makes a Donor Day a Special Event For Your Group

  • Donor Days cake with organization name
  • Balloons/party decorations
  • Blood Trivia card to every donor that day with prizes
  • If 10 or more people from the organization sign up, we can have a theme party Harley Davidson or Jimmy Buffet...
